What is the FIRST Lego League?

The FIRST Lego League is an exciting robotics program that ignites an enthusiasm of science, technology, engineering, and mathematics in kids ages 9 to 14. Each year FLL teams embark on an annual "Challenge" based on current, real-world issues. Guided by a team coach and assisted by mentors, the kids research and solve a real-world problem based on the "Challenge" theme, present their research and solutions as a projects, and build an autonomous robot using engineering concepts.

As stated on the Official FIRST Lego League Website:

"The FIRST Lego League introduces younger students to real-world engineering challenges by building LEGO-based robots to complete tasks on a thematic playing surface. FLL teams, guided by their imaginations and adult coaches, discover exciting career possibilities and, through the process, learn to make positive contributions to society.

Elementary and middle-school students get to:

~Design, build and program robots using LEGO MINDSTORMS® technology
~Apply real-world math and science concepts
~Research challenges facing today’s scientists
~Learn critical thinking, team-building and presentation skills
~Participate in tournaments and celebrations

What FLL teams accomplish is nothing short of amazing. It’s fun. It’s exciting. And the skills they learn will last a lifetime."

What is the deal with 'Northern Arizona FLL'?

Northern Arizona FLL teams, as a whole, have developed separately from the rest of the FLL program in Arizona. Not only do all Northern Arizona FLL teams attend the Northern Arizona FLL Regional Tournament, but each team is more than a hundred miles away from the largest Arizona metropolises of Phoenix and Tucson, and the majority of said teams developed as a direct result of the CocoNuts Robotics Team extensive efforts in establishing and expanding the FIRST Lego League in Northern Arizona.

In addition, the CocoNuts Robotics Team serves as a cohesive unit between Northern Arizona FLL Teams: serving as mentors, teaching FLL coaches' workshops, disseminating information, and hosting the Northern Arizona FLL Regional Competition. In fact this very site is run by the CocoNuts for the benefit of all the FLL Teams of Northern Arizona.
