What is FRC?
“The varsity sport for the mind,” the FIRST Robotics Competition (FRC) combines the excitement of sport with the rigors of science and technology. Under strict rules, limited resources, and time limits, teams of 25 students or more are challenged to raise funds, design a team “brand,” hone teamwork skills, and build and program robots to perform prescribed tasks against a field of competitors. It’s as close to “real-world engineering” as a student can get. Volunteer professional mentors lend their time and talents to guide each team.
This year's game, named REBOUND RUMBLE, is played with foam basketballs. Drivers try to shoot basketballs into the hoops in the 15-second autonomous period to score extra points. During the teleoperated period drivers try to pick up basket balls and shoot them into the hoops that are their alliance color. In the last 10 seconds of the teleoperated period, robots must balance on bridges in the middle of the field earn additional bonus points and for even more points teams will ballance with the opposing team on the middle bridge.
