"Prescott Invasion"
The CocoNuts travelled down to Prescott, Arizona on March 3rd, 2010, to engage in an entire day of presentations about the excitement of FIRST to Prescott area elementary and middle schools. Even though its over 70 miles away, the CocoNuts, as the closest FIRST Robotics team, wish to establish FLL in the Prescott area as they did in Flagstaff.
W.L. Gore Proposal
The CocoNuts have partnered with the Coconino County School Superintendent's Office to propose a joint venture with the Flagstaff-based Medical Division of the engineering firm W.L. Gore & Associates to expand opportunities for students to engage in FIRST throughout not only Flagstaff, but rural Northern Arizona. This proposal, if successful, would enable the CocoNuts to open up numerous opportunities for disadvantaged, low-income, minority students across the expanse of a county larger than the state of Massachusetts. As of July, this proposal has been slowly moving forward.
CHS Robotics Letter
In addition the CocoNuts are working on creating a "Robotics Letter" at Coconino High School to recognize the time and dedication of members of the robotics team in a similar way to varsity sports.
NAU FIRST Scholarship
In addition, the CocoNuts are lobbying Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff to institute a scholarship for FIRST participants, seeing that NAU is the only public university in Arizona without one. Alongside this, the CocoNuts are also lobbying NAU to become an organizing partner of FTC in Arizona, in a similar way how Arizona State University is the state organizing partner of FLL.
