C.O.C.O.N.U.T.S.
This year the CocoNuts are going to continue with their yearly FLL styled summer camp. C.O.C.O.N.U.T.S. stands for Challenging Outragous Camp of Nutty Unique Technology and Science. The camp is for students from age 9-13 and teaches participents how to build small lego robots and advanced programming using NXT software.
The CocoNuts are currently trying to spark a growth of JrFLL in Northern Arizona similar to the growth of FLL in the same area. This year they will be piloting 10 JrFLL kits in the Flagstaff school system. The CocoNuts will be mentoring these teams as well as organizing an Expo for the teams to show their work.
CHS Robotics Letter
In addition the CocoNuts are working on creating a "Robotics Letter" at Coconino High School to recognize the time and dedication of members of the robotics team in a similar way to varsity sports.
NAU FIRST Scholarship
In addition, the CocoNuts are lobbying Northern Arizona University (NAU) in Flagstaff to institute a scholarship for FIRST participants, seeing that NAU is the only public university in Arizona without one. Alongside this, the CocoNuts are also lobbying NAU to become an organizing partner of FTC in Arizona, in a similar way how Arizona State University is the state organizing partner of FLL.
