Since 2008, the CocoNuts have hosted and organized the Northern Arizona FIRST Lego League (FLL) Regional Tournament. In 2009 and 2010, the CocoNuts were given the additional opportunity to host the Arizona FIRST Tech Challenge (FTC) Championship Tournament.
The CocoNuts decided that in order to provide the best and most exciting competition experience they should combine the two events into one. The High Altitude Robotics Extravaganza (HARE) is the result of that decision, and is an event which combines the Northern Arizona FLL Regional Tournament and the Arizona FTC Championship Tournament into a single action-packed day at Coconino High School. In 2010, however, the High Altitude Robotics Extravaganza grew too large to be hosted in the same day, so it was split into two different events, but these two events retained the name of the HARE.
HARE provides a venue in which younger FLL teams can be inspired by seeing what they can achieve in high school, and FTC teams are pushed to join the innocent enthusiasm and energy of their younger peers.
